I dragged my photographer bestie Nancy Wyatt Photography to come and help me out with a set of twins again. When you are photographing twins you need at least a set or two of extra hands. There is holding, wrapping, pumping, spotting the babies, changing, feeding, everything you can imagine is going on behind the scenes.
To rock a newborn session you need to have some essential shots that the parents love
1.Wrap the babies
First of, wrap up the babies in little potato sacks. Parents are always in awe when the little ones sit on my bean bag like this. It is harder supporting two so its always a good idea to have an extra hand when you are dealing with two babies for safety. I explain to them what i am doing all the time, its a fun and learning experience
I got the cutest little hats from My Darling Emma for them! i wanted to give their momma the cutest little twin set up. Sometimes we as photographers go out our way to surprise our clients and it means the world to them too! Its the little things!
2. Parent Shot
It is essential to always want a good parent shot to remember how little the babies were. I love to look back and see how small they were compared to our hands. Black and white just takes it the extra mile for me.
3. Macro Shots
The little pink piggies we all love! it’s even better if its 2 sets :), you can also add more variety to your gallery by adding lips, ears and hands.
4. It’s ok if they are awake.
As photographers we always worry that the babies will be awake because we want them asleep so they don’t wiggle out of their wrap or pose. When we reveal our galleries to our clients they are always drawn to those awake shots. It is rare to get them to focus on our lens but then we get lucky we can have some magic. In this case, the little man on the right decided to be awake for this part of the session, I was hesitant to keep going but this might have been my favorite photo of their session. Do not be scared to snap away if they are awake.
5. Consistency in Colors
I worked up a color pallet of blue and brown tones for this session. I try to work in monochromatic tones to give it a more consistent tone and look to the end result. Part of my session planning is to ask the parents what colors they are using in their nursery decor and also for the rest of the house so we can make sure the photos will look good displayed every where.
